The Wasteshed’s craft meetup program offers two fun events for makers and craft enthusiasts. "Craft Club," held at the Evanston store, is a relaxed morning gathering where crafters of all kinds can bring their projects, enjoy coffee and snacks, and connect with fellow creators. "Craft Night," hosted at the Humboldt Park store, provides an evening of crafting with creative reuse supplies from The Wasteshed, fostering a fun, hands-on environment. Both events are free and open to the public, making them perfect opportunities to meet new friends and explore creativity. Join us for these enjoyable meetups and be part of a supportive crafting community.

Trash Collective Artist Residency is a part-time creative residency for The WasteShed’s teaching artists to focus on their own practice and deepen their connection to and collaboration with The WasteShed’s staff and community. This program provides studio space for local artists with a community-focused reuse-based art practice space to work within The WasteShed’s Humboldt Park classroom space, and access to our materials straight from the source (i.e. intake). Trash Collective artists also co-design programmatic community offerings in partnership with WasteShed staff.

Mobile Mending is an ongoing craft education program designed to teach the community how to mend, alter, and repair clothing, thereby reducing textile waste and fostering a culture of repair. This initiative, inspired by a radical mending project from The WasteShed’s founder, includes a variety of activations such as pop-up mending sessions on the 606 Elevated Trail with our Mobile Mending Mobile. Additionally, it offers workshops for the public and future sewing educators, along with the development of instructional materials based on these experiences. Launching in Fall 2024, Mobile Mending aims to inspire and equip individuals with practical skills for sustainable fashion practices.
