The WasteShed Evanston is moving to Edgewater!
We need your support to bring our next space to life
As you may know, The WasteShed’s partner organization at our Evanston location, the Evanston Rebuilding Exchange, closed abruptly in October 2025.
We stuck it out through most of 2026 largely due to the tenacity and resourcefulness of our phenomenal Evanston crew: Emily, Avery, Hannah, Cam, and Frank. Read more about their experience in the zine they made.
Meanwhile, almost everything that made our Hartrey location work when Rebuilding Exchange shared it with us became a drawback in their absence. We've scoured the north side for a suitable new space all year, casting an ever-wider net, and finally found a solution that meets our needs at a price we can (sort of) afford. In Edgewater!
We are super excited for our new space and new neighborhood, which offers many opportunities for growth and partnership. It will be a big leap into the unknown for us, and we need your support to make this transition possible!

In 2025 alone, The WasteShed Evanston:
Kept over 55,000 lbs of creative and educational materials out of landfill. These materials are worth an estimated $660,000 to the community, annually.
Provided an average of $1,600 worth of free materials to teachers every month through our Free to Teachers section
Served 18,000 people from the greater Chicago area and beyond with low-cost or free creative resources
Employed 5 staff and 2 interns
Offered dozens of low-cost or free creative events and workshops for the community
The WasteShed Evanston will be open our regular hours through 9/20. You can also help the move by shopping our inventory so we have less to schlep!
Our new Edgewater space features:
More space for both our creative reuse operation and our educational community programs
Better transit access (between the Berwyn and Argyle red line stops)
Better climate control for our climate-impacted times! 🌬️
We have exciting opportunities, fun plans, and enormous challenges ahead of us in 2027.
With your help, we’ve covered our security deposit and first months rent, but we need to raise $45,000 by October 1st to make the move.
